Revised immigration law was operated on July 1, 2010. We inform you of some changes about the procedures for people entering Japanese language institutes from now on.
1, Regarding the residence status and the period of stay
The residence status of those who enroll in Japanese language school after the 1st of July, is "College Student". In addition, there are 5 types of the period of stay for "College Student" status such as 6 months, 1 year, 1 year and 3 months, 2 years, and 2 years and 3 months.
*Regarding those who enroll in our Intensive course, the period will generally be for 1 year and 3 months.
2, Regarding Application for Permission to Engage in Activity other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted
The certificate for permission to engage in activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted is abolished, and you will get the seal of permission for that on the passport instead.
Those who are enrolled in Japanese Language Institute are permitted to engage in activity out of the status up to 28 hours per week as well as the students of universities and technical colleges.
3, Application for Re-entry Permit
Until now, those who enroll in Japanese language institutes have been given only "single" re-entry permit which is valid for just once. However, it became possible to obtain "multiple" re-entry permit after the 1st of July this year. In addition, "the letter of re-enrty approval" no longer be necessary though it used to be required for them to apply for Re-entry Permit.
* Other than that mentioned above, the various new systems will be operated such as to issue "residence card", "minashi re-entry system", to report of entry and withdrawal from school, and abolition of Foreign Residents Registration system. It is not determined when to be enforced.(These will properly be carried out within 3 years after the revised immigration law is delivered)
